Now available to watch on History Hit – the first of two films I have made about duelling. This one covers duelling with swords and charts the story from its early origins. The second film, which we are just finishing up, takes the story forward to the age of pistol duelling.These are approximately 30-minute films made for a general audience , so obviously they cannot be encyclopaedic. Duelling is such a rich story, with so many individual tales, that we’d need at least a 12-part series to cover it fully. However I’m very happy with what we have been able to achieve for these films.Challenges included having to film all our sword-fighting duels in Yorkshire during Storm Babet. At the last minute Old Era Events came to the rescue with their magnificent pop-up tavern. I’m also grateful to ‘3 Swords’, ‘Histrionics’ and ‘Sword and Scoundrel’ who answered a last minute call for duellists, when logistics capsized a previous plan.
