Today’s post on the Loades of History SUBSTACK is all about TREBUCHETS!loadesofhistory.substack.com/p/tales-of-the-trebuchetIn fact it is a DOUBLE. The main article, linked here, is a quick 101 (for the lay reader) on how trebuchets work and the chronology of their development, plus some stories about trebuchets in action. However this article also LINKS to one of my Rhymes about…you guessed it… a trebuchet. I am a compulsive rhymer and I’ve started this series of rhymes in one of the sections of my Substack (see top line on the home page). For me they’re a different way of encapsulating some key ideas and moods about knightly life in the Middle Ages. There has been a great swell of subscribers to my Substack in recent weeks. Thank you all - and Welcome! This is where we can really dig in to the things that interest us.For those of you new to the platform, make sure you go to the HOME PAGE and take a look at the range of articles available. The more recent ones are featured but there is a whole archive to explore that now includes 17 essays. There is military history, there is dog history and horse history. There is something about life living in Portugal and there is a section with some light-hearted recollections of behind-the-scenes adventures. There is much, much more to come, so be sire to SUBSCRIBE (there is a FREE option, though obviously, for those who can, a paid subscription will really help me to keep this going). The way I think about Substack is that I now have an online magazine, in the same way that people have an online channel on You Tube. So don't just go to the page that first caught your attention have a flick through and see what else you might like there...and do remember to click 'LIKE' , if you do. I see the 'reads' statistics, which are very encouraging, but 'likes' also help a lot, in terms of encouragement. I hope to see you there - let's build a community of courteous discussion about the things that fascinate us.For this fb post - let us know your top 3 picks so far.loadesofhistory.substack.com/?utm_campaign=profile_chips...
